Residency
Under the ACP-EU CULTURE PROGRAM Support to cultural and creative sectors in West Africa (2021-2023), Nubuke Foundation is offering artist-in-residency opportunities for up to 8 individuals within the 2022 – 2024 project cycles.
The Nubuke Foundation has been running informal community engagement programmes with the textile weaving and clay pottery communities in the Upper West region since 2010. Textile weaving collectives in Wa, Nadowli, and Nandom have benefited from the programmes which have brought them together with artists and academics.
The aim of those interactions was to instigate idea exchanges, research, and informal conversations. Starting off to infuse the artisan community with new ideas through interactions with artists, the programme has led to the construction and opening of a centre in Loho, on the outskirts of Wa. This centre serves as a focal point for the weaving community and has become a nurturing and promotion space for textile-based practising artists.
How To Apply
The self-directed residency programme offers artists, writers, designers, curators, scholars, and other creative individuals the time, space, and inspiration to retreat, reflect, explore, and experiment with their own practice. This residency programme will take place at the Nubuke Foundation Centre for Textile and Clay. Facilities to be provided to artists by Nubuke Foundation:
Facilities provided by the Nubuke Foundation include accommodation and internet service, a monthly stipend for production and living costs, and transportation for travel within Wa and its environs.
The resident is expected to produce work-in-progress, public projects/exhibitions, publications, research and research dissemination, art talks/public/panel discussions, community projects/engagements, social media conversations and the like as part of their residency.
